A Message from President Josh

Hello All, Here is the proposed bylaw to be voted on in Detroit. This is a dues increase from JCI USA. This is NOT a state dues increase. This will be discussed at FAS to determine on how the state would like me to vote at Detroit. If you have any questions on this please don’t hesitate to ask.

I would like to say there will be a dues increase and I’m guessing it will be more than a $1.50.

JCI USA last raised their dues in 1997.

Again if you have any questions please ask and if you want to be part of the discussion at FAS please register for convention.

Proposed Language, Section 13.2A, as recommended by the JCI USA Board of Directors:

SECTION 13.2 LOCAL CHAPTERS.
A. Local Chapter dues shall be Twenty and No/100 Dollars ($20.00) twenty-one and 50/100 Dollars ($21.50) per annum per Individual Member, in addition to which includes the Ten and 50/100 in dues assessed by Junior Chamber International and any JCI dues increases forthcoming up to the year 2020. Additionally, a one-time Ten Dollar ($10.00) late fee shall be assessed to each member renewing after their membership has expired. If the Local Chapter qualifies as an Institutional Chapter or Collegiate Chapter, then Local Chapter dues shall be reduced to Fifteen and No/100 ($15.00) per annum per Individual Member. For Collegiate Chapters, there shall be no other fees, administrative, fees, or dues other than Chapter Dues and Junior Chamber International dues as stated herein, except that the State Organization may assess a fee not to exceed Ten and No/100 Dollars ($10.00) per Individual Member.

The Mission of JCI Minnesota is to provide development opportunities that empower young people to create positive change

Helping Hands & Kids Helping Hands Awards
We are going to be handing out the Helping Hands and Kids Helping Hands Awards at Fall Convention in Wilmar, MN. I am very excited to help give these out to our amazing Jaycees, their friends and their family members. Members can submit their Helping Hand Awards today!!!! Submissions can be found on the JCI MN website (jcimn.org) here. The Helping Hands and Kids Helping Hands tab will be on the right side of the page. Submissions are due August 20th.

The Helping Hand Award is for a special friend, family member or fellow Jaycee who has given you the extra support you need to make your Jaycee year successful. The Kids Helping Hands are for younger Jaycee children who support your work within the Minnesota Jaycees. This submission can be made by any member (for any members, they do not have to be a Jaycee). Submission does not guarantee an award.

Presidential Medallions
Presidential medallions recognize members of the organization who made an impact to the chapter, organization or an individual in the organization. This submission can be made by anyone and can be given out at any time – not just convention. An example of a submission could be: You could submit RD Paul for a medallion for something fabulous he did for you or the chapter. Or, Meredith could submit Joe Member for a medallion because he ran a new project that made $$ for the chapter and he signed 2 new members in the process. Note: A submission does not guarantee an award.  Submissions are due September 10th.

International Youth Day – ACF Program
12 August

2016 Theme: The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production

On 17 December 1999, in its resolution 54/120, the United Nations General Assembly endorsed the recommendation made by the World Conference of Ministers Responsible for Youth (Lisbon, 8-12 August 1998) that 12 August be declared International Youth Day.

The theme of the 2016 International Youth Day is “The Road to 2030: Eradicating Poverty and Achieving Sustainable Consumption and Production”. This year’s Day is about achieving the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development. It focuses on the leading role of young people in ensuring poverty eradication and achieving sustainable development through sustainable consumption and production.

Sustainable consumption entails the use of products and services that meet the basic needs of communities while safeguarding the needs of future generations. The development and promotion of individual choices and actions that increase the eco-efficiency of consumption of all and minimize waste and pollution is critical to achieving equitable socioeconomic development. See more on this year’s International Youth Day.
